This unit introduces learners to the purpose and importance of accounting within businesses and develops the practical skills required to record, process and report financial information accurately.
Learners explore how businesses use accounting systems to manage finances, monitor performance and support decision making. The unit develops an understanding of accounting principles, financial documents and the procedures businesses use to record transactions and maintain accurate financial records.
Throughout the unit, students investigate the use of financial documents such as invoices, credit notes, bank statements and receipts, while also developing practical bookkeeping skills. Learners gain experience of recording business transactions, maintaining accounts and producing financial information that can be used by managers and stakeholders.
Students also examine the role of technology in accounting and consider the advantages and disadvantages of computerised accounting systems compared with manual methods. They develop an understanding of how financial information is used to assess business performance and support operational and strategic decisions.
